2024 Winter Skeet/Trap League

Final Week 6: Mother Nature was a cruel mistress again.  She fooled us early with some sun, but then she showed us her true, 2024, late winter back side.  Not quite as bad as week 5, but wet snow was on and off most of the day.  Maybe she’ll be better to us in our fall league.

Now the important stuff.  Jim Courtwright and Steve Wall managed a tie for HOA breaking 279 out of 300.  Rather than head out into the elements again to settle things, they agreed to divide the first and runner-up money, which amounted to $70 each.  Nice shooting gentlemen!

In skeet, Mike Wojtecki and Steve Wall tied with 140, but according to our rules, just one money prize per shooter, so Mike got first place money ($42).  Jim Courtwright broke 138, but again, one money prize, so Joel Stewart’s 137 was awarded runner-up money  ($28).  Just out of reach of the cash, at 136, was Matt Benchek and Larry Price with Paul Huckno just one more back at 135.  Just shows you how close our competition really is.

In trap, both Jim Courtwright (141) and Steve Wall (139) led the pack, but again, no double dipping in the money pool!  First place money ($42) went to Gary Dickerson’s 137 and runner-up ($28) to Jack Wall for his 136.  Note just how close the top skeet and trap scores were to each other.  To this writer, it shows great overall marksmanship from our group.

FYI:  Out of the 320 actual rounds shot in our league, there were just seven 25 straights; 4 in skeet and 3 in trap, just 2.2% of the total.  With better shooting conditions, I’m sure this percentage might be higher.  Amy Dunn takes the non-monetary prize for consistency.  Her last four skeet scores were 21.  I’d bet she would tell you just which station or stations she could clean up to be among our best competitors.

PS: Thanks to all who participated and remember, our club will be having our annual spring cleanup Saturday April 13th.  Anyone willing to give a hand should be at the club at about 9:00am.  Bring a pair of gloves and maybe your favorite lawn rake and help us keep this the best looking club in the area!  Thanks!

Week 5: Well mother nature wasn’t quite finished with her winter follies.  The day started out windy but tolerable then deteriorated from there.  Needless to say, there were no 25’s this day.  Six shooters will need to shoot two rounds next week to finish up, so there could be some changes to the spreadsheet leaders as shown below.  Here’s hoping we get some well deserved decent spring weather next week.  See ya’ll then.

3/10/24 winter skeet/trap league

Week 4: A cloudy but warmer day greeted shooters this day.  About time!  Two 25’s in skeet this week and no less than five 24’s in trap.  One target separates the first and second place in skeet, trap, and HOA.  Just shows the tight competition in both disciplines.  Check out the spreadsheet scores below.  Two weeks to go now, time to make your move.  See you all next week.

Week 3: Still cold and windy to start but warmed up a bit late.  Snow all gone though.  No straights this week but a few 24’s.  Take a peek at the scores below to see who’s leading at the half-way point.  Three shooters shot ahead this week, so their totals reflect 4 weeks.  See you next week.  Bring some warmer weather with ya!

Week 2: WOW!  Cold, wind, and a little snow greeted us this week.  Given these obstacles, some decent scores were turned in.  Jim Courtwright only dropped one target today, running them on the trap field.  A third of the way through the league it looks like he’s the one to beat, on either field.  On the other hand … See you next week.

Week 1: This year’s version of our winter skeet/trap league got off to a cloudy, chilly but dry start.  28 shooters showed with maybe more next week, where they might shoot both week 1 and week 2.  No fewer than 5 shooters broke 24 skeet targets, but no straights.  In trap, only Jack Wall managed to “run em all”, but there were 4 other 24’s.  Three shooters are tied with 48 total targets.  See you next week!
