The 2022 version of our Big Gun Open got started just as the heavens opened up making for a soggy start to our registered shoot year. We had great participation this year possibly due to the fact that Covid seems to have run its course, for the most part. It may also be true that shooters had quite a pent-up desire to break some clay given the last two years, even as shooting supplies & ammo still can be hard to acquire.
30 shooters participated in the 12 ga event presented by Pet Supplies Plus. The wet conditions didn’t stop Chris Kline and Chris Dole from running them. Kline took gun champ in the shoot-off. This was Dole’s first 100 straight, so his hat was ventilated with prejudice following the shoot-off. AA1 went to Matt Lenehan with his 99 and AA2 was won by Matt Kelly who broke 98. Class A winner was Sam Marks Jr. broke 98 to take A1. John Brickner didn’t stick around for shoot-offs so his 98 took A2. Charles Lombardo took B1 after a shoot-off with Dave Wilke after both broke 95. C1 was won by Ron Johnson after his 95 with Lou Brickner’s 88 taking C2. Steve Best fired a 92 to top D class with Greg McChesney’s 82 taking D2. As per our program, the single E class shooter, Bud Proctor, was combined with D class. Ethan Moore shot “Targets Only” so he did not compete in this shoot even though his score is seen on our 12 ga score sheet.

26 shooters shot the afternoon doubles event presented by Minella’s Plumbing. We started in the rain but finished in dry, but still cloudy conditions. Matt Kelly fired a fine 98 to become gun champ with Cody Holt, shooting in the same squad with Matt, taking R/U with his 97. Chris Kline took AA1 breaking 95. Class A came down to a shoot-off of 94’s by both Lenehan’s. Dad Bernie came out on top with Matt then taking A2. Chris Dole’s 93 was good for B1 and Aaron Burnett taking B2 with his 92. Charles Lombardo broke 83 for C1 while C2 went to Jerry Reeves with his 76. D1 went to Dan Ficarro’s 87 with D2 going to Bud Proctor who broke 78.

The HOA event presented by American Legion LeBarron Post 237 was another close affair. Class 1 needed a shoot-off of 196’s between Matt Kelley and Cody Holt. Matt came out on top this time to take the class. Class 2 was won by Chris Dole with a 193 total while 2nd place was won by Aaron Burnette in a shoot-off with Dave Wilke after both totaled 186. (Please note that the Class 2 places were incorrectly marked on the sheet below).

A huge THANK YOU to all of the club volunteers who got the club in shape for this event. Marc for keeping the clubhouse spotless and keeping the traps loaded with birds. Mike and Beth for manning the lunch area. Mark Holthouse for his expert refereeing along with Mike, Stoney and Steve ref’ing the other field. Joe for loading traps when not shooting. Mike, Marc, Steve, and George for grounds keeping. Thanks again!
Please show your appreciation for the sponsors of our shoot, shown above as well as the following, who were good enough to donate added prize money, by considering them first for your needs. Shooting sports need them more now than ever before! THANK YOU!
