Our 2025 version of our Fish Fry Open began on July 4th of our country’s 249th birthday and saw sunny and hot weather throughout the weekend, but we did avoid rain. Good targets, good scores, good friends, and good food were all to be experienced at our Union City Sportsmens Club. Thanks to all who attended! Hope you all had a good time despite the heat.
FYI, the number of participants were as follows: Doubles-25; 12 ga-26; 20 ga-25; 28 ga-25; and 410-24.
Doubles event 5 Presented by Erie Pack & Ship:
Friday afternoon saw Bernie Lenehan leading the way with a very nice 98 followed by Chris Kline busting 97. Chris had to win a shoot-off with Brian Steinert though to take the R/U spot. Here are the rest of the doubles top results:

12 gauge event 1: Presented by VFW Post 6773:
Sun again greeted us Saturday morning for the 12 gauge. Adam Vollmer fired the first 100 for the shoot giving him the title. Runner-up was Chris Kline who was just one back with a 99. Checkout the rest of the top places:
20 gauge event 2: Presented by VFW Post 6773:
Saturday afternoon saw Bernie Lenehan earn gun champ but not before coming out on top in a four-way shoot-off of 99’s. The other three were Adam Vollmer, Chris Kline, and Brian Steinert. Bernie and Adam ended up running almost a box and a half of doubles at 3,4, & 5 before things were settled. The longest shoot-off we can remember at UC. Just a treat to watch!
As our shoot name suggests, Saturday evening after shoot-offs, all shooters and some guests were treated to a Lake Erie walleye dinner with all the “fixens”. Thanks to Paul Huckno who not only caught them and cleaned them but also cooked em. Thanks Paul! Thanks also to all those who helped prepare and clean up after the dinner. Many thanks also go to the lunch time cooks and help, managed by our club President Mike Wojtecki, who served hotdogs, hamburgers, french fries, and cold drinks Saturday and Sunday.
28 Gauge event 3: Presented by Sundance Retrievers Inc.
Sunday morning seemed even a bit warmer the Saturday morning. Chris Kline didn’t seem to mind as he fired a nice even 100 to claim gun champ. Bernie Lenehan and Brian Steinert shot-off 97’s with Bernie coming out on top to claim the runner-up spot.
410 bore event 4: Presented by Quinn Agency, LLC
Sunday afternoon was 410 time. The event that normally separates the pack. This time a relative newcomer showed his ability. Ethyn Moore shot, what I believe was his best ever 410 round, a 96 which earned him the gun championship. Bernie Lenehan and Chris Kline shot-off 95’s to settle R/U. Bernie again came out on top.
HOA event: Presented by both Erie Pack & Ship and Sundance Retrievers

Mike, Jack, Beth, Ed, Maddie, & Cole for manning the lunch area. Paul for catching, cleaning, and cooking the Lake Erie walleye for our Saturday evening feast, Mark Holthouse, Sam Marks Jr, Larry Price, & Steve Best for their expert refereeing. And Mike, Jack, and Steve for keeping the grounds looking great. Thank you Mark Kinner for your help getting ready for the shoot on Friday. Thank you Jim Shields and Mike Wojtecki for donating a number of great items for our raffle. Also, thanks to Marie Trilli for the embroidered HOA towels. Thanks again!
Please show your appreciation for the sponsors of our shoot, shown in the shoot program, who were good enough to donate added prize money, by considering them first for your needs. Shooting sports need them more now than ever before! THANK YOU!
