Week 6: The league finale wasn’t exactly what we were hoping for weather-wise. Pretty cold to begin but did get tolerable as the day went along. Thanks to all that attended. Our club remains the best in our part of the state, in my opinion, and you all help to keep it going. Hope you enjoyed getting outside during the late winter, to ward off cabin fever. One lonely 25 straight this week fired by Doug Sliker in trap, his second week in a row. Here are the prize winners for this first annual skeet/trap league named in honor of our departed friend Jack Wall. Click here for all the scores.
HOA 1st -Jim Courtwright 278
HOA r/u – Doug Sliker 274
Skeet 1st – Steve Wall 139 (see note below)
Skeet r/u – Matt Benchek 139 (see note below)
Trap 1st – Matt Luke 136 (see note below)
Trap r/u – Gary Dickerson 133 (see note below)
As noted in our league rules, only one prize per shooter and to be as transparent as possible, a bit of explanation is in order regarding the skeet and trap awards. Regarding skeet, Steve Wall and Matt Benchek tied with 139, but because Matt had left the club, 1st place went to Steve. In trap , we originally awarded 1st to Joel Stewart (141), but he brought to our attention that he was ineligible because he had “shot behind” twice which is against our rules, so being the sportsman that he is, he returned the prize which then went to Matt Luke (136). We had originally awarded r/u to Matt, so we now owe Matt another $14, so Matt, stop by and we’ll get you caught up. Gary Dickerson did not receive his prize, so Gary next time we see you, you have $28 coming. Hope this long-winded explanation is helpful.
We sincerely hope you all continue to stop out to the club during the summer. Starting April 2, our club is open for trap and skeet on Thursdays rather than Sundays. We work to maintain the club in the morning beginning about 10am until about 1pm so shooting normally begins after that. We’re always looking for people to keep our club looking nice, so we never turn down anyone showing up to help.
Next skeet/trap league will begin next fall so keep checking our website for the actual date.
Week 5: Finally, some warmish weather although with an occasional drop of rain. Nicer weather brought some 25 straights after three weeks without. Five in trap and just one in skeet. Jim Courtwright leads in both HOA and trap as well as second place in skeet, but as is our league rules state, just one prize per shooter, so there are a number of shooters still in play. Matt Benchek leads in skeet by one over Jim. Doug Sliker is just two back of Jim in trap and five back of Jim for HOA. So going into the last week, with a total of six prizes to be awarded, it behooves (always wanted to use that word) us all to bring our best scores to the club. Who knows how things will shake out. Here’s to great weather for the league finale.
Week 4: The targets were twerkin today. Cold and windy to start then warmer and windier later. Holy flyin cows! Shout out to Northwestern REC lineman for getting our power back on sometime Saturday night. Fighting to get this page updated with power off & on here in NW Harborcreek. No 25 straights again this week which makes three weeks now without one. There were five 24’s in trap (Courtwright, Clark, Maille, Stewart, and Sundean) and just one in skeet by Matt Benchek. Good shooting still. In HOA, Jim Courtwright has a 4 bird lead over Matt Benchek and Joel Stewart. In Skeet, Benchek and Courtwright are tied with Kirik & Sundean just one back and Fisher two back. In Trap, Stewart holds a 3 bird lead over Courtwright and Dickerson. See ya’ll next week.
Week 3: Cloudy start. Sunny finish. Breezier as the day went along, and Daylight Savings Time now in effect. Spring is now less than two weeks away at least by the calendar. Another week without a straight, but six 24’s; three in skeet and three in trap. I hear talk of a hundred dollar reward for the next straight, but my hearing isn’t the Best;>) After week three, Steve Wall has a three bird lead over three others in skeet. In trap, Gary Dickerson and Joel Stewart lead by two. For HOA, J Stew leads by just a single target. Till next week then, see ya.
Week 2: Holy cow! My wish from last week for better weather came 50% true. Glorious sun but temps in the lower 20’s. As this is written, Monday March 2, “First Warning Weather” says partly sunny and a high of 48 for next Sunday. We’ll take that right? Anyhoo, no straights this week but four 24’s. So close! Click here to see all the scores. Don’t forget, “Daylight Savings Time” next Sunday!
Week 1: The first week of our first annual Jack Wall winter league started out a bit on the snowy side, but not terribly cold. A couple of 25 straights were shot; Jim Courtwright in skeet and Gary Dickerson in trap. Here’s to better weather next Sunday!
